How do I add custom fields such as Size and Color to my products?

Many ezimerchant Professional users sell products with different sizes and colours (such as clothing or foot wear). The custom fields in ezimerchant Professional allow the customer to select such information when purchasing products from your web site.

Please Note: Many customers have asked us if its possible to create custom fields that affect the pricing of the product. This feature is only available in the new web based ezimerchant.

In the example below the DTS Lettermans Jacket comes in several different sizes. As you can see, the customer can select the sizes in the drop down box. Which ever size the customer selects will be reflected in the shopping cart throughout the purchase process. The size information will be passed on to you when you retrieve the order within ezimerchant Professional.

To create a custom field like the one above please follow the instructions below...

STEP 1

To add a custom field to a product in your ezimerchant Professional web site, open ezimerchant Professional and from the main screen click the link called 'Manage Products and Categories'.

Now select the product that you want to add a custom field to, and then click the 'Custom Fields' tab.

STEP 2

Click the 'Add Field' button. The following window will be displayed...

Click the 'New' button to create a new custom field. The following screen will be displayed...

STEP 4

There are several different 'Display Types' that you can select from. Below are some examples of the different 'Display Types'...

For this example we will be using the 'A Drop down list' display type.

STEP 5

Select the 'A drop down list' from the 'Display Type' section and then give the custom field a name and description.

Please Note: The name will be displayed on the web site but the description will not - use it for future reference only.

STEP 6

Now we need to enter the 'List of Values' data. For this example I would like 4 values. (Small, Medium, Large, Extra Large)

STEP 7

You can now test your new custom field in the preview panel at the bottom of the window as illustrated below...

When you are happy that your custom field looks ok, click the 'OK' button. The following window will be displayed...

STEP 8

Your new custom field has now been created and added to the Global Custom Field list. You can now click the 'OK' button to assign the new custom field to your product.

Please note: You can also assign this custom field to other products in your web site.

STEP 9

Click the 'Close' button to return to the main screen in ezimerchant Professional.

STEP 10

Generate your web site to see the new custom field in action.


How to assign an existing custom field to a product:

STEP 1

Select the product that you would like to assign an existing custom field to and then select the 'Custom Field' tab.

STEP 2

Click the 'Add Field' button. The following window will be displayed...

STEP 3

Select the custom field you would like to add to your product and then click the 'OK' button.

The custom field should now be assigned to your product. You can do this for as many custom fields as required.

STEP 4

Click the 'Close' button to return to the main screen in ezimerchant Professional.

STEP 5

Generate your web site to see the new custom field in action.
